John Astbury grew up in Birmingham, England, where he studied anthropology before heading to Stockholm and product design at Konstfack, the country’s greatest university for arts, crafts and design. After graduating in 2011, John has obtained well deserved international recognition, with a continually rising amount of collaborations and awards.
Through his studio in southern Stockholm, he drives design in a new direction, as he reinvents and re-examines traditional forms. In his work, exploring archetypes stands as a firm foundation. Breaking down a classic to uncover its essence, while questioning the object and its sense of place, provides a framework to build on.
